Relay Fundraisers

The American Cancer Society Relay For Life Team Fundraising Club is designed by the Mid-South Division Relay For Life Task Force as a standardized recognition system for Relay For Life teams throughout the Mid-South Division (Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Kentucky and Tennessee).

The Team Fundraising Club also provides the following benefits for Relay volunteers and staff:

Encourages Relay teams to pay their team registration fee on time.

Encourages Relay teams to turn in donations prior to or earlier during the event.

Encourages the formation of teams of 8-15 members.

Provides standardized recognition of teams raising above the $1,000 minimum.

Fosters communication between local Relay For Life Committees and Relay For Life Teams.

Increases communication between local Relay For Life events and the Mid-South Division office.

Strengthens the teamwork of all Relay For Life events of the Mid-South Division, working towards one common goal – the elimination of cancer through research, education, advocacy and service.

The goals listed above are met through criteria set for Team Fundraising Club eligibility. The Mid-South Division Team Fundraising Club criteria are as follows:

Maximum of 15 team members to qualify.

Team registration fee is paid by the registration deadline set by the local Relay committee.

All money must be received by a pre-designated time as determined by the local Relay committee. It is suggested that the deadline for turning in money is prior to the end of the Relay event to minimize the amount of money turned in after the event.

Only donations raised by team members toward their team goal will qualify for Team Fundraising Club membership (i.e. team registration fees, corporate sponsorship money, and luminaria donations will not count).

Each team member is encouraged to raise a minimum of $200 each.

Other recognition suggestions that local committees may want to consider:
1. Announce Fundraising Club teams in local press releases.
2. Recognize Fundraising Club teams and team captains at team captain meetings and kickoffs.
3. Invite team captains of Fundraising Club teams to lead a team captain meeting where they can teach the other team captains how they raise money.
4. Invite Fundraising Club teams/captains to a special reception, lunch or dinner with the Relay committee and local staff. Perhaps invite a researcher to speak and thank them for their contribution.

How to order and use the Fundraising Club signs:
There is no charge to local Units/Relays for the cost of the lapel pins or signs. The Mid-South Division office provides these items as a courtesy to encourage utilization of the Team Fundraising Club program at all Relay For Life events in the Mid-South Division.

Fundraising Club campsite signs should be ordered prior to the Relay and presented to the teams during Bank Night or Opening Ceremony so they can display it at their campsite. This will create a lot of enthusiasm and excitement with all the teams! When ordering signs, please remember that you’ll also want to order signs for teams that you expect to move to the next level during the Relay event. As teams turn in money and move up, the Relay Committee can have a special ceremony and present the teams with their new signs. Again, this will help generate competition and energy around the Team Fundraising Club as well as adding to the overall Relay experience!

• The campsite signs are ordered via the National Materials Catalog. The code numbers are listed below.

  o Silver Team Sign – 7542.67
  o Gold Team Signs – 7542.68
 o Platinum Team Sign – 7542.69
 o Diamond Team Sign – 7542.7
 o Purple Team Sign – 7542.71

• The Division Relay Department is paying for the expense of the signs, so please contact your State Development Director for the coding information you’ll need when you place your order.

• Please note that only Silver – Purple Teams receive signs, so there will not be any need to order Bronze signs.

• The signs come in cartons of 10.

• The signs are pre-printed with the year 2003, however, stickers imprinted with 2004 are provided.

• There is blank space on the signs that can be used to write in the name of the team and/or how much the team has raised. A permanent marker (such as a Sharpie) will need to be used.

• Finally, although the Division Relay budget is covering the cost of the signs and pins, please use your best judgment when ordering. We trust you to not abuse this benefit!

How to order and use the Fundraising Club pins:
Again, there is no charge to local Units/Relays for the cost of the lapel pins. Fundraising Club pins are to be ordered after the Relay event, preferably within 2-3 weeks following the event. This will allow time for you to receive the pins so they can be presented to the teams at the Wrap Up/Celebration Party with other awards and incentive prizes. Each member of the team will receive their own pin. Remember, only teams with 15 or fewer members qualify for the Fundraising Club.

• Fundraising Club pins can be ordered from the Relay Gear website via Inside Mid-South. To access the website through Inside Mid-South, click on Relay For Life, then Relay Gear. This will take you to the Relay Gear website. From here, click on Mid-South Division Team Fundraising Club Order Form in the General Information box. From here, just follow the instructions for sending in your order via email or fax.

• Please note that although only Gold – Purple Teams will receive pins, you will need to provide information on all your qualifying teams. This is because Relay Gear is collecting all the information on the teams for the printing of the Team Fundraising Club book this fall. Only teams listed on the order form will be included in the Club book.
