EVERY
RELAY FOR LIFE EVENT IS ABOUT SURVIVORSHIP
Relay
for Life is an overnight celebration of life dedicated
to present and former cancer patients, their families and friends,
and those who lost the battle with cancer. Relay for Life
raises money for the American Cancer Society while raising
awareness that cancer can and will be beaten. First and foremost,
we are there to honor those who have or had cancer.
Every Relay For Life event honors survivors in
several special ways:
The Luminaria
ceremony - this is a personal way for people to recognize
their loved ones and freinds with cancer
The Survivor's
Reception - in the early evening, we will have a special
reception for survivors with food, drink, and cake, as we are
their to celebrate their survival!
The Opening
Lap For Survivors - In this moving start to the Relay
For Life event, often names and years since diagnosis
are read, person by person, and each of those people join the
other survivors on the track. When they have all gathered, the
Relay For Life officially begins! On the second
lap, their caregivers as well as family can join them, and then
all others at the event
